Town Accountant

The Town of Pepperell is accepting applications for the position of Town Accountant. The position is responsible for oversight of all expenditures of Town funds, involving extensive judgment and initiative in ensuring that all municipal financial activity is conformable to law, and to sound municipal accounting practices. The Accountant will maintain financial records for all Town accounts, appropriations, debts, and contracts, as well as maintain the General Ledger and Journal; provide all necessary submissions and reports to the State; supervise the annual Town audit; serve as primary support staff for the Finance Committee.
Applicants should have at least a Bachelor's or equivalent in a relevant discipline (preferably accounting), must have a minimum of five years professional experience in accounting, with at least three years of said experience being specifically in municipal accounting, and preferably in a management or supervisory position. The position requires a comprehensive knowledge of all applicable provisions of the General Laws, as well as knowledge of GAAP, UMAS, and GASB regulations. Computer capabilities are a prerequisite, competence in MS Office programs is necessary; ADMINS software is used by the Town.
Salary is negotiable, dependent on qualifications. Sewer/Water Superintendent

The Town of Pepperell seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Sewer and Water Superintendent in the Department of Public Works. Responsibilities include managing the wastewater treatment plant, a recently upgraded 1.1 MGD facility; managing the collection system which serves 1,600 customers; and managing the operations of the Water Division serving 3,000 customers. The staff includes 13 employees including a Chief Operator in each Division and 11 licensed personnel. Primary job responsibilities include the day-to-day management of operations of both Divisions. Financial management experience is extremely important for these two Enterprise Funds, which will include conducting rate hearings, and preparation of annual budgets. Excellent communications skills are a must as is interaction with local governmental officials and the public at large. Applicants should also have familiarity with SCADA systems, GIS systems, applicable laws and regulations, and the workings of municipal government. The successful applicant will have a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator VI license, a Bachelor's degree in civil or sanitary engineering and two years experience in municipal sanitary operations; or other applicable college-level work and six years experience in municipal sanitary operations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and possession of motor vehicle operator's license. The Town of Pepperell is accepting applications for the position of Communications Dispatchers. The position will report to the Communications Director and will perform technical duties in dispatching public safety apparatus, monitoring all Town alarm systems, answering emergency and non-emergency phone calls, and use of in-house records keeping computer as well as other related work as required. A high school education and one-year work experience is required, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Applicants with E911 and CJIS Certifications considered first. Must have ability to work under stress and become proficient in the use of radio and computer equipment. Must have good spelling and typing skills and be able to communicate well verbally. Must be able to pass a criminal history background check. Salary: $15.35-$17.26 plus 2nd and 3rd shift differential.

PACH Outreach seeks volunteers
Pepperell Aid from Community to Home
PACH Outreach, or Pepperell Aid from Community to Home (an independent non-profit), is a service provider organization for Pepperell residents. PACH is seeking volunteers to assist in the office with food distribution, preparing fuel assistance applications, and other activities on the third Saturday of each month and during other office hours. Training to help with fuel assistance applications will be offered on October, 15 at 10:00 am at the Pepperell Senior Center.

Pepperell's Volunteer Fire Department Needs Daytime Volunteers
Pepperell's volunteer Fire Department has, for a long time, been one of the best and fastest in the region. That excellent history of service, as well as the safety of our citizens, is being now threatened by a lack of personnel able to respond to emergency calls during weekday daytime hours. If you work in or close to Pepperell during the day, please consider joining your neighbors and fellow townspeople as a volunteer firefighter or firefighter/EMT. No experience is necessary. Training and good comradery are provided.

Our Independence Day celebration (always on the first time Saturday in July) is one of Pepperell's proudest days of the year, boasting one of the area's best parades, fun activities for kids and families, and a fireworks demonstration that is the envy of the region. All of that fun, but it's the result of careful planning and the dedication of the group of volunteers on the Pepperell 4th of July Committee. And, the committee needs help.
