Emergency Notification System

CodeRED is a new emergency notification service by which town officials can notify Pepperell residents and businesses by telephone, cellular phone, text message, or electronic mail about time-sensitive emergency situations or important community alerts. The system is capable of sending messages only to specific neighborhoods or the entire town. Only authorized officials are allowed access to the system.

GPS implementation for Cell Phone Emergency calls

For emergencies call 911. We teach our children that and it works. Why? Because a 911 call from a Pepperell "433-" telephone exchange goes straight to the local Communications Department at the Police and Fire Station on Main Street in Pepperell. The dispatcher automatically sees the caller's address and can immediately alert local first responders, whether that be Pepperell police, firefighters, ambulance, or another emergency agency.

A similar functionality is now available for cell phone emergency calls, too, thanks to the implementation of GPS, or Global Positioning System, tracking from 911 cell phone calls. As this system is being rolled out during March and April 2007, 911 cell phone calls may go to a regional response center rather than the local Pepperell dispatchers. However, GPS tracking of the caller's specific location will ultimately speed response even if the call needs to be transferred to the local Pepperell dispatcher.

The Communications Department requests your cooperation in using 911 only in the case of emergency. All business calls from all phones should go to 978-433-2424.

TTY Emergency calls

Pepperell's emergency communications system does support TTY, or Teletypewriter (also know as TDD, or telecommunicaitons device for the deaf) emergency calls. TTY callers can call 911 directly. The alternative emergency number, 978-433-2671 also supports TTY calls.

VoIP Emergency calls

As mandated by the FCC, most VoIP providers are now able to fully support call-locating emergency communications. VoIP uses should now be able to directly call 911 for emergencies.
