POSITION: HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/LABORER I

  • LOCATION: DPW Highway Division
  • HOURS OF WORK: 7:00 A.M.   3:30 P.M. Monday   Friday
  • SALARY RANGE: $20.99 (Step 1) - $25.91 (Step 6) – Grade 4
  • BARGAINING UNIT: AFSCME Local #1703

The responsibilities, functions and duties listed below are illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.  

General Statement of Duties:

Performs skilled manual work in operating heavy equipment for construction, maintenance and repair projects for Highway Department. Operates specialized heavy equipment, such as back hoe, loader, dump truck, jetter, basin cleaner, street sweeper, and other public works vehicles.  Operates electric and power tools, hand tools, and related tools and equipment. Performs similar, incidental or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Supervision:

Works under the general supervision of the Highway Foreman receiving general directions. The position is subject to review and evaluation according to the AFSCME Local #1703 CBA.

Job Environment:

Majority of work is performed outdoors at which time the employee may be exposed to weather extremes of hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather.  The employee is subject to the hazards associated with working around construction sites. Employee may be required to work on weekends and may be contacted at any time to respond to important situations and emergencies.  

Entrance Requirements:

High School graduation plus four years’ experience in experience in operating heavy and specialized equipment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience

Possession of a valid Class B CDL.

Possession of a valid Class 2B Hyd. license.

Physical Requirements:

Heavy physical effort is generally required to perform functions which involve frequent lifting more than 60 pounds. Employee is required to operate equipment for long periods of time during all types of weather conditions.

Firefighter/Paramedic - Full-time

The Town Of Pepperell is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the full-time position of Firefighter/Paramedic or Paramedic with successfully completing the Fulltime Recruit Academy within 18 months of hiring.   Duties to include but not limited to responding to fire and ambulance calls, providing emergency medical care to the sick and injured. Attends training as required. May perform general office work. HS education and minimum two years experience as a Paramedic, college level coursework highly desirable; or any equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; certification as Paramedic by the Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services and Central Mass. EMS, certification/acknowledgement by Regional Medical Director, and Massachusetts State Certified Firefighter I and Firefighter II (or equivalent) preferred. Pay range is $23.58 to $28.51 per hour, DOQ. Complete job description available in the Personnel Office.
