The Pepperell Water Department is moving forward with a new filtration plant at the Bemis Well site located on Bemis road. The purpose of the plant is to remove increasing levels of iron and manganese from the source water, which is the cause of discolored water and occasional staining of clothes. Once complete, the iron and manganese will be removed from the water.
The following pictures depict the initial stages of the plant. The view with the concrete are the water holding tanks that will store treated water for distribution. The second photo shows rebar (reinforcing steel rods) being installed for another section of the facility. It is expected that the concrete work will last through March of 2020.
