The Pepperell DPW is planning for significant road repairs on Townsend Street. The project consists of a pavement overlay from Town Hall to South Road (MA Route 119). Prior to paving, various sections of the road will be milled to remove significant surface defects.
The milling phase is expected to commence on August 6th and is estimated to take 3-4 days to complete. The contractor will be working from Route 119 and proceed inbound for this work. The following week (8/12 – 8/16), DPW crews will be making final adjustments to the water, sewer and drainage structures, and to prepare driveway transitions located within the public right-of-way.
Beginning Sunday night, August 18th, the contractor (Brox Industries) will begin placing the pavement overlay. This work is extremely weather dependent and is expected to take 3-4 nights to complete. The anticipated hours of the paving operations will be approximately from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m.. Please be aware than unanticipated circumstances may dictate deviations from this schedule, and these changes will be posted on the Towns website as soon as they become known.
The paving has been scheduled at night for several reasons, the most significant being the costs and logistics associated with safely and effectively handling the daytime traffic volumes on Route 113 and connecting streets. The paving operations can progress more quickly with fewer traffic interruptions, thus minimizing the impacts on adjacent residences. Fewer vehicles on the road, especially large trucks, will also minimize the potential for damage to the freshly installed pavement. It is intended to provide the best possible job in a cost effective manner while remaining responsive to the residents.
We apologize for any inconvenience this project may cause for residents and motorists. DPW crews and police details will be present during all phases of these operations. Please contact the DPW office (978-433-0327) or Highway Dept (978-433-5735) if you have any questions or concerns. We thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.
