At Nissitissit Meadows Conservation Area the trail along the edge of the meadow/hay field is next to a line of shrubs in a wet swale. Among the sun loving summer flowering herbaceous plants and shrubs are milk weeds (we’ll examine the amazing flowers), blue-eyed grass (a lily, not a grass), whorled loosestrife, dogwoods, deciduous hollies, meadow-sweet, and maleberry. In the forested area we’ll see some of the same plants we’ve seen in other young pine and oak forests, but in fruit. Partridgeberry was flowering on June 24, and there may still be a few flowers in July. We will try not to disturb the meadow nesting birds, whose young will probably have hatched by then.
