The Track
In high school I loved track. I was a sprinter and wasn't the best but loved the competition and the energy being a part of a team, a team of my peers. We all had so many things going on in our lives but when we were on that track we protected and encouraged one another. When one of us won, we celebrated together. When one of us lost we comforted each other and not just track losses but boyfriend losses, failed tests, sick parents or grandparents. We were there for one another on that track. It was like our own little, but strong community. I loved every minute of it.
Why am I talking about this? It got me thinking about our community here at the Senior Center. In many ways I feel like I'm on that track again. And maybe you feel it too. I see people sharing important experiences, comforting and celebrating with one another. I see folks pushing each other to do more in exercise classes. I also see many helping each other in the loss of a partner or a close friend even creating new support groups.
My guess is many of you have a "Track" in your memories; a place where you and your peers and friends gathered and shared so much more than just that place.
Consider our Center here in this time and place, something so much more too. I know I do.

Well, that was not the case.
