Water Main Flushing Program - Fall 2021
The Pepperell Water Division will be conducting fall water main flushing starting the week of September 12, 2021 and continuing through mid-October. Water main flushing is conducted to remove harmless sediments from the water mains that accumulate over time and are intermittently “stirred up” from fire use and water main disruptions. The majority of the flushing will take place Monday to Friday between the hours of 6AM and 5PM. Certain sections of the system will be flushed during the overnight hours in order to reduce the impact to nearby residents.
“Hydrant Flushing in Progress” signs will be posted in areas immediately before undergoing water main flushing process. The signs will move with the flushing process as the Water Department progresses though the Town. Flushing may also cause minor flooding and puddling on the streets.
Water system users should expect changes in pressure and color as the water main flushing is conducted. The water main flushing process may cause a temporary discoloration to the water. Persons experiencing discolored water should limit their water use. Additionally, those persons with water filter systems may experience premature filter fouling. If your water does not clear up, please run your COLD water into your bath tub for up to 20 minutes. Running water in the bath tub will avoid clogging the faucet aerators. The Water Main Flushing Program is critical for maintenance of the water supply system and maintaining water quality. It is also vital for fire protection.
*Starting Sunday 9/12/21 overnight hours: Oak Hill St., Lawrence St., Bemis Rd. area will begin rigorous flushing. Please plan accordingly.
